Bad break (literally) will keep Frank Pedregon out of Las Vegas Funny Car field
Frank Pedregon’s plans of competing at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals were dashed Friday when he suffered a broken leg in a passenger car accident.
Frank Pedregon’s plans of competing at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals were dashed Friday when he suffered a broken leg in a passenger car accident.
Pedregon, who kicked off the season in the Worsham Family Racing’s Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car, was traveling on a surface street when a car pulled out in front of him and he subsequently collided with the vehicle. The impact was with such great force it buckled his legs under the steering column and broke his femur in three different areas.
“When I looked down and saw my legs I told myself this isn’t a good place,” he said.
Pedregon was rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he underwent same-day surgery to repair his injury. At this time it is still unknown if a second surgery will be needed. Doctors anticipate a speedy 2-4 week recovery for Frank.
The team plans to return to action July 26-28 at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
